Reading through this, I recognize a lot of it, which I always put down to "writer's brain". There's the "writer's time warp", wherein you know you have to leave in 30 minutes but need to finish that paragraph/page/scene, which will only take 10 mins...but you keep going only to look up at the clock and find that 45 minutes went by in what you thought was 5. Friends love that! That a reason why I have to have a kettle that whistles. (Ruined a beautiful Japanese kettle and turned my kitchen into a steam room learning that lesson.) Thanks for a lovely post and sharing. (And I never regret *not* going onto social media.) ❤ xo
I do go on from time to time...and typically regret it. Once upon a time, it was a place of connection. Now it's just gutter trash (aside from a few good friends scattered around the place). xo
I try to focus on those meaningful connections, but that gutter trash seeps in occasionally. I am definitely working on forming a better relationship with these platforms and forgoing the ones that don't speak to me anymore.
Exactly. I recently went back to Facebook after a year+ absence (best thing ever) because there are friends going through things, and I can't expect a personal memo on all of that. The algorithm is just crap. I only post Substack stuff on Instagram and learned long ago to use Lists on Twitter, so I only see posts from Smart and Funny Twitter. I rarely go there at all. Happy here, though! xo
I like the slowness of Substack compared to the other social media platforms, too! Thank you for sharing your experience! Always appreciate your insight🤗
Great article, thanks!
Thank you! Glad to hear :)

That's relatable!
I commend you for your decision to abstain from social media!! That is amazing :

That is absolutely true!
