I don't (think I) have ADHD, but I have writer brain. Which means I have to stop everything and write down/record whatever snippet popped into my brain or IT'S GONE! (I might get a second stab at it, but I've learned not to roll the dice.) Writer brain also means having a kettle with a whistle, setting timers/alarms/reminders/alerts, because my brain is never doing just one thing.
I only get to WFH on Fridays now (boo!) but there is a routine. It's the one day I take a lunch, ironically. I run errands, pick up food (or make something specific) and take the full hour. I have a different kind of gig now where I can only be so proactive; my job is mostly waiting for requests/tasks (anything that is regular is done ASAP and off my table). But I'm a "read all the emails, check Teams and voicemail" type to start my day, then the smaller/quickly done things, then dive into the bigger deals.
Hey Sandra 👋 feel you on the forgetfulness. I’m the same. I can never recall anything from work calls and nothing written down will vanish into my mental abyss! I’ve started putting my keys in the same place over and over and over and I’ve done it enough times to burn it into my neural pathways. No more forgetting the keys!
Hi, Jordan. I'm the same. If things aren't in 1 of 3 places (typically I have a place for everything and everything's in its place), I panic because that means it could be lost! (Keys, phone, glasses.) I've left my keys in the deadbolt outside my door more than once (fortunately I have a security screendoor and I automatically lock the knobs as soon as I open the doors. Humans are quirky! Also, key dishes are fancy. LOL. xo
I really need to work on embracing the writer's brain! I think it'll come back to me, but it never does🤣
I love that we are not just in sync with what's on our mind, but also how like to start our day. High five! Thank you for taking the time to read and support this work, Sandra. Means a lot🤗
We'd love to hear your feedback on this topic. Is there anything you'd like to see more of in future posts? Share in the comments below!
Oh what fun finding this! I'm just finishing up tomorrow's post on remote work, with a mention of neurodivergence! I'll drop a link in here tomorrow!
Sounds great! Looking forward to it :)
